In Wicholson's picture, you can see a group of people, of the black race, who are living in misery (torn tee shirts, small homes, etc.), but who enjoy themselves with the little they have. For example, two black children are playing football. The oldest person in the picture is at the barbecue while another is doing laundry. The old tree, the torn tee shirts, as well as the small houses all reflect the poverty of the black people. Alongside them is a rich-looking white man. He's wearing flip-flops, a pretty tee shirt, and nice-looking shorts. He has come with his car. He's probably there to take advantage of the black race or to mock them.
