The Internet is an elite organisation. Most of the world has never even made a phone call.
The word elite refers to people who possess superior skills and are highly esteemed for their expertise. Althouglh learning how to use a computer or navigate the World Wide Web is not difficult, many people throughout the world are intimidated by this technology or are too poor to own a computer, pay for an Internet connection, or afford something as simple as a phone. People who have access to this technology are considered as possessing a superior skill and are therefore considered part of an elite group.
