The cartoonist’s goal is to denounce the American society’s weaknesses by humour. Thus, this cartoon is a satire. It uses irony and caricature. Irony because there is a discrepancy between what the huge woman is saying and what she is doing. She is telling at his upset that she literally wont eat food genetically modified because it’s unhealthy whereas she is gulping down with a gaping mouth potato crisps. Caricature of the characters because they have thin arms with a huge belly and their legs had vanished. The cartoonist want to show the America lifestyle with three “mot d’ordre”: couch, fast food and television. It’s a representation of the spirit “couch potato”. The goal of a satire, as here, is to hope modification. Precisely in this cartoon, a modification of behaviour because there is a real problem with the food in the United States. We can speak about a modern society’crisis.
