As we grow older, is it important to keep mementos of our past? Take examples from your own experience.
In general, we all have little mementos that we treasure from when we were children; but is it really important to have keepsakes from that period of time? Who hasn't been surprised at the sight of one's baby pictures? I personally enjoy seeing photos of when I was a child; and these pictures are very precious to me. It's funny seeing what I looked like a decade ago. I have a lot of pictures of myself, but no videos. And I think it's a shame because if I had some videos, I could listen to the way I spoke and see my mannerisms when I was little.
So it is indeed important to have these mementos of one's past because we can learn things about ourselves from them. Furthermore, we can show them to our children and to our loved ones; and when we die, we leave a little of ourselves behind. But videos and photos aren't the only things we can keep as mementos; we can also save personal objects. As for me, I know my mother has kept some of my clothes from when I was one or two months old. They're very precious to me now, and I will keep them forever and show them to my children.
However, even if we don't have keepsakes from our past, the pleasant memories we have of that period in our lives will always be engraved in the memories of those closest to us. Our parents and our grandparents can always remind us of particular incidents that took place in our childhood.
To conclude, I think holding on to mementos is important as we grow older. Personally speaking, they give me a mix of nostalgia and joy. Above all, the most beautiful of mementos are those in the memories of our loved ones.
