Obesity: the threat of a world epidemic
The world grows bigger! And France is not in remainder, with 40% of the population too much gross. But from which this “epidemic comes” from obesity? Why the overweight progress does in a so vertiginous way? Who are the most touched people? The point on a worrying phenomenon.
One speaks today about a true epidemic of obesity which does not save any more any area of the world. From Canada in Europe while passing by China, this phenomenon reaches the United States particularly.
With more than 55% of the population suffering from ponderal overload, the United States holds the sad record of people suffering from overweight. Obesity and the overweight constitute true problems of public health. The United States touched by grease Obesity and the overweight are particularly present in certain American minorities, like at the people having an low income and a low level of education. Not less than 97 million adult American are thus too large. According to last figures' published by the prestigious medical review Newspaper off the Medical American Association (JAMA) 1, the rate of obesity further increased in 1999 in the USA. This rise of 5,6% per annum represents a doubling of the number of obese American since 1991, in spite of the messages of sensitizing and the many ones of studies denouncing the health risks related to obesity. It increases, inter alia, the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes. The diabetes in particular increased by 76% at the thirty year ones and 33% in the American general population between 1990 and 1998 In 1991, obesity was at the origin of at least 300.000 deaths each year on the other side of the Atlantic and only the tobacco would make more deaths. France worried by infantile obesity The emergent countries are not saved either: 60% of the Mexican population would be too large. In Egypt, 35% of the population are obese, in Saudi Arabia, 24% of the women are obese and 40% of the women in Kuwait. In France, the increase in the number of obese would be less important and would concern especially the young women. According to an investigation of INSEE, in 1991, 7% of the women were obese against 6,3% in 1980, whereas this disease does not seem to progress to the men (6,5% in 1991 against 6,4% in 1980). Lastly, in a study carried out near the conscripts, it appeared that the proportion of the overweight compared to the general population passes from 11,5 to 16,5% between 1987 and 1996 and that of the obesity from 1,5 to 3,1%. Last June the INSERM4 revealed that a child on 10 is obese at the 10 years age. According to this institute, obesity involves disastrous effects on health at the adulthood. “In the obese child, of the anomalies appear, such as an increase in the blood pressure or cholesterol. In the children having a severe obesity, apnea of the sleep can start, as well as orthopedic pathologies. Very early cases of diabetes are described, in the United States, at teenagers having a severe obesity ". Students of the West of Virginia and Mali carried out scientific surveys while following the population in their community. They directed research by controlling their diet, exercise, index of body mass, and the rate of heartbeat.
Many more students of Mali has a low mode in grease and sugar refinery and does as many sports as the students of Virginia, one can thus deduce from it that IMC are less low to them. | |

| Bonjour, July.
The people of the world are getting fatter! And France can't be excluded either with 40% of the population being overweight. But where has this obesity "epidemic" come from? Why is it on the increase in such a mind-boggling way? Who are the people most affected? This phenomenon is certainly a cause for worry. One speaks today about a true epidemic of obesity which does not save any more any area of the world. From Canada in Europe while passing by China, this phenomenon reaches the United States particularly. These days, reports of this very real epidemic don't spare any part of the world. From Canada to Europe but skipping over China, this phenomenon is particularly noticeable in the United States.
The United States, a nation of fatties
With more than 55% of the population suffering from ponderal overload, the United States holds the sad record of people suffering from overweight. Obesity and the overweight constitute true problems of public health. Obesity and the overweight are particularly present in certain American minorities, like at the people having an low income and a low level of education. Not less than 97 million adult American are thus too large. With more than 55% of the population suffering from excess body fat, the US holds the sad record of being the only country with the largest number of people suffering from overweight. Obesity and overweight are real challenges to public health, and are particularly prevalent among certain minorities such as the poor and the undereducated. It has been estimated that no less than 97% of adult Americans are too large.
The diabetes in particular increased by 76% at the thirty year ones and 33% in the American general population between 1990 and 1998. In 1991, obesity was at the origin of at least 300.000 deaths each year on the other side of the Atlantic and only the tobacco would make more deaths. The emergent countries are not saved either: 60% of the Mexican population would be too large. In Egypt, 35% of the population are obese, in Saudi Arabia, 24% of the women are obese and 40% of the women in Kuwait. According to the latest figures published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the rate of obesity has been escalating since 1991 in spite of attempts to increase public awareness of the studies emphasizing the health risks related to obesity. Among other things, it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Diabetes in particular has soared to 76% among 30-year olds and 33% in the general population between 1990 and 1998. In 1991, obesity accounted for at least 300,000 deaths. Only tobacco would claim more deaths. Third-world countries haven't been spared either: 60% of the Mexican population is overweight. In Egypt, 35% of the population is obese. In Saudi Arabia, 24% of women are carrying around too much weight as well as 40% of women in Kuwait.
France worried by infantile obesity
In France, the increase in the number of obese would be less important and would concern especially the young women. According to an investigation of INSEE, in 1991, 7% of the women were obese against 6,3% in 1980, whereas this disease does not seem to progress to the men (6,5% in 1991 against 6,4% in 1980). Lastly, in a study carried out near the conscripts, it appeared that the proportion of the overweight compared to the general population passes from 11,5 to 16,5% between 1987 and 1996 and that of the obesity from 1,5 to 3,1%. In France, an increase in the number of obese people would seem to be a problem mostly among young women. According to an investigation by the INSEE, 7% of women were obese in 1991 compared to 6.3% in 1980, whereas this disease doesn't seem to be progressing among men (6.5% in 1991 compared to 6.4% in 1980). Lastly, a study carried out in the military provides the following statistics: the proportion of overweight among military personnel compared to the general population jumped from 11.5% to 16.5% between 1987 and 1996, while that of obese people in the general population went from 1.5% to 3.1%.
Last June, the INSERM4 revealed that a child will probably be obese by the age of 10. According to this institute, obesity impacts disastrously on a child's health all the way into adulthood. In their own words, "Anomalies appear in the obese child, such as an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol. Children who are severely obese may experience sleep apnea as well as orthopedic pathologies. Early-onset diabetes has been diagnosed among severely obese teenangers in the United States."
Scientifically constructed surveys were conducted among students living in West Virginia and those in Mali. These surveys involed monitoring the students' diet, exercise, body mass index, and the rate of their heartbeat. Students living in Mali consumed less fat and refined sugars, but were as active in sports as the Virginian students. We may deduce from these studies that the Mali students had a lower IMC.
Un petit conseil... il faut éviter les sigles dans un rapport à moins d'avoir utilisé dans un premier temps le nom complet de l'organisation dont tu parles.
Bonne chance.
